Kriebel and Pulfrey commit to Tigers for 2023-24

Dalhousie Tigers cross country head coach Rich Lehman is pleased to announce the commitment of Eva Kriebel and Juliet Pulfrey for the 2023-24 season.

Hailing from Vancouver, British Columbia, Kriebel races for the Thunderbirds Track and Field Club and West Point Grey Academy (WPGA). A captain on the WPGA team this year, she helped them to an overall second-place finish at the 2022 BC School Sports Cross Country Championship by crossing the line in 20th place. Earlier that year, Kriebel placed second in the girls D5 varsity blue category of the Mt. San Antonio College Cross Country Invitational in California.

The most outstanding WPGA junior girl for the cross country team in the 2018-19 2019-20 seasons, Kriebel was also named the most outstanding WPGA senior girl on the cross country team in 2021-22 and 2022-23.

“I am super excited to come and run for the Tigers, meet the amazing new coaches and teammates and explore a new coast of Canada,” says Kriebel. “I have been on a running team of some kind since I was in kindergarten and I am so happy that I can continue my passion for running and make a new running family at Dal.”

A multi-year member of the honour roll at WPGA, Kriebel will be working towards a Bachelor of Arts at Dalhousie.

Joining Kriebel at Dalhousie is fellow British Columbian, Juliet Pulfrey. A co-captain of her Handsworth Secondary School team for the last two seasons, the North Vancouver native helped her team to an overall gold medal finish at the 2022 BC School Sports Cross Country Championship finishing in 18th. This is the first championship title for Handsworth Secondary School and an improvement on their silver medal in 2021 and Pulfrey’s 20th place finish.

“I am nervous and excited to trade the west coast for the east coast,” says Pulfrey. “When I came to visit in February I loved the city, campus and team vibe.”

Pulfrey will be studying science at Dalhousie and is planning on majoring in neuroscience.

“Eva will add depth to our women's cross country program, and after giving her some time do develop, I believe she has an upside that will make her very competitive at the AUS level and beyond,” says Lehman. “Juliet has been one of BC's best high school cross country runners for a few years. I expect both to add to our success at the conference level immediately.”

The women’s cross country team placed second overall at the AUS championship in 2022.
