The Dalhousie men’s cross country team capped off another strong season in 2022 with their third-consecutive AUS championship banner.

A week later, the team travelled to London, Ontario for the Western Invitational. The Tigers ran to a third-place team finish with Grimshaw-Surette finishing 12th with a personal-best 8KM time of 25:35. Cox was close behind in 14th, followed by Goslett in 17th, Robertson in 20th, and Rosen in 24th.

The next race for the Tigers was the second AUS Invitational, hosted by l’Universite de Moncton.

The men finished second in the team standings, just two points behind first-place STFX. Lukas Rudiatis was the first Tiger to cross the line, finishing in fourth place. Maksym Pokotylets was eighth, followed by Joseph Fiander in 10th, Matteo Mauro in 17th, and Blair Miller in 21st.

Next up was the final event before the AUS championship - the 2022 Rouge et Or Cross Country Invitational.

The Tigers finished the team standings in second again, with Grimshaw-Surette the top finisher in sixth. Goslett and Cox also grabbed top-10 spots, finishing in eighth and 10th respectively, while Robertson was 13th.

The men’s team continued their good form at the AUS championship and put in a commanding performance. They placed five runners in the top 11 with Grimshaw-Surette leading the way for the Tigers, crossing the line in fourth, just out of the medals. Robertson was hot on his heels in fifth, followed by Will Cox and Aidan Goslett in sixth and seventh, respectively. All four runners were named AUS all-stars. Rosen crossed the line in 11th and the Tigers secured their third consecutive AUS championship team title.

Two weeks later, Dalhousie co-hosted the 2023 U SPORTS Cross Country Championships and were ranked seventh in the nation ahead of the meet. The Tigers had a great race despite battling through Tropical Storm Nicole that day.

Rosen and Cox led the team at the event finishing 24th and 25th respectively with a time of 25:30. Grimshaw-Surette crossed the line in 27th just two seconds behind them. Robertson and Goslett rounded out the scoring, finishing in 48th and 69th, respectively to earn a sixth-place team finish.

“This season was the culmination of four years of hard work from our team’s core,” says head coach Rich Lehman. “While we knew we were lacking a true low stick (someone in the top 10) we felt that our depth through five guys was as good as anyone ranked between 2nd and 8th. I was very proud of the way the guys competed at nationals. Our sixth place finish was the best finish for our men’s team in almost 20 years. We felt like we could have been a bit better on the day, but all seven guys raced hard and left it all on the course.”
