Lehman named to national team coaching staff

(Halifax, N.S.) – The Dalhousie Tigers are pleased to announce that Rich Lehman has been named to the Athletics Canada U18 NACAC team coaching staff.

Currently in his sixth year as head coach of the Tigers cross country and track and field teams, Lehman is one of six team coaches that will lead the Athletics Canada’s U18 team to the 2018 NACAC Championships to be held next July in Costa Rica.

The NACAC Championships feature the best U18 national team athletes from the 31 NACAC area member countries within North America, Central America and the Caribbean. Lehman will be working with distance athletes named to the team and their personal coaches in preparation for the competition as well as on-site coaching at the event itself.

“Rich has been and continues to be an integral part of the success of both our cross country and track and field programs,” says Tim Maloney, Executive Director, Athletics and Recreation. “I have no doubt that he will prove to be an asset in the success of the national team at next year’s championships.”

A six-time AUS cross country coach of the year (5 women, 1 men), Lehman’s cross country runners claimed both conference titles this season. He has also earned the honour eight times in track and field (4 each men and women). He will lead the men’s and women’s teams in search of their 26th and 28th conference titles, respectively, in the New Year.

“I'm excited to have been named to my first national team,” says Lehman. “It will be a privilege to represent Canada and to have the opportunity to work with young athletes of this calibre. I'm also very excited about the learning opportunities presented by working with the other team coaches, many of whom have years of experience on national teams. I think that the athletes and coaches that I have worked with at Dalhousie have prepared me well for this opportunity.”
