(FREDERICTON, N.B.) -  Michelle Reddy (Sarnia, ON), of the Dalhousie Tigers, was first across the line in today's Atlantic University Sport women's cross country season-opener, in Fredericton.

Reddy won the UNB-STU Invitational in a time of 23:40.

Universite de Moncton's Carol-Ann MacDonald ran second, in 23:49, and Acadia's Katie Robinson was third.

Jenna Keilty was the top Varsity Reds finisher, crossing the line in 13th place, in a time of 24:59.

"I kept it comfortable for about the first 5K, then just brought it in from there," said race winner Reddy. "It was the first run of the season, we keep it pretty relaxed, so it was nice to get out there and treat it as a workout."

The StFX women took the team event over Acadia and Dal with UNB finishing fourth in the team event.

On the men's side, former Dalhousie Tiger Matt McNeil, racing with the Halifax Road Hammers, won the men's 8 kilometre race at the UNB-STU Invitational on Saturday, the first event on the Atlantic University Sport men's cross country schedule.

McNeil won in a time of 26:38.

Alex Neuffer(Stratford, PE), of the StFX X-Men, was the first university athlete across the line, just nine seconds back of McNeil, finishing second overall. Callum Drever was the first Tiger to cross the finish line, placing fifth.

UPEI's Lee Weselius (River Glade, NB) was third, in 27:00, but second among AUS runners.

The Dalhousie Tigers captured the team event on the strength of four Top 10 finishes.

StFX was second in the team standings, while the Varsity Reds were third.

The next AUS cross country meet will be co-hosted by Dalhousie and Saint Mary's Saturday, September 23 at Point Pleasant Park.
