2015 Cross Country Season Preview

2015 Cross Country Season Preview

Women

The Dalhousie Tigers women’s cross country team is once again set to defend their AUS title. Coming off of a season that saw them place all seven runners in the top 10 at the AUS championship last year, the Tigers will be looking to improve on their eighth place national finish.

The team is once again led Ellen Chappell and Colleen Wilson. The duo claimed AUS gold and silver medals in cross country and both distance events in track and field last year. They will be joined by co-captain Emily Clarke, last year’s team MVP and top finisher at the CIS championship as well as Michelle Reddy who is set up for a strong cross country campaign after a breakthrough outdoor track season.

Look for key contributions from returning team members Kayte Kowal, Morgan Hawkes, Jenna MacDonald and Emily Ferguson as well as newcomer Kate Scallion. Scallion boasts an impressive resume at the longer distances as well as a great deal of experience in championship races.

Men

The 2014 AUS silver medallists are once again looking to move to the top of the podium this year.

Fifth-year veteran and second team All-Canadian Matt McNeil is back for one more year and will be looking to add an AUS individual gold medal to his collection. McNeil is undefeated in cross country, on the roads and on the track since October 2014 and is once again ready to take on all challengers.

McNeil will be joined by a tight pack of Will Russell, Jake Wing, Brendan Gemmell, Nick Wood and Graeme Wach, all of whom are coming off of very strong summer track seasons.
