Volleyball Tigers win season opener

(HALIFAX, N.S.)—The Saint Mary's Huskies opened their 2018-19 Atlantic University Sport volleyball season on Saturday evening, dropping a 3-0 (25-23, 25-22, 25-9) decision to the U Sports No. 8-ranked Dalhousie Tigers. 

Dalhousie took the opening set 25-23, as neither team led by more than two points thru out the setSMU held a slight 11-9 kill advantage and had 10 more total attacks in the set. 

Tied 6-6 in the second set, the Huskies used a six-point run to take leads of 12-6 and 18-10. A 5-2 run by Dalhousie saw the Tigers trail 20-15. Another five-point spurt by Dalhousie saw the set tied 20-20 before the Tigers put the set away 25-22. 

The Tigers jumped out to an early 4-1 lead in the third and extended their cushion to 16-2 midway thru the set.  closed out the third set 25-9 for the victory. 

Dalhousie improves to 1-0 and hosts the Acadia Axewomen October 28 at 1 p.m. while SMU falls to 0-1 and visits DAL in their home and home series November 2 at 6 p.m.
