Sophia King to join 2018-19 volleyball roster

(Halifax, N.S.) - Tigers women’s volleyball head coach Rick Scott is pleased to announce the addition of Sophia King to the lineup for the 2018-19 season.

A 6’0 outside hitter, King comes to the Tigers after four seasons with the Westman Volleyball Club. Currently in her final 18U season, she helped them to a third place finish at the Manitoba Volleyball Club provincial championship last year and to a second-place finish the year before.

The Forrest, Manitoba native has also experienced lots of success at the high school level, helping Elton Collegiate’s volleyball team to provincial A championship titles in her grade 10 and 12 years. A two-time all-star and an MVP in grade 12, they earned third-place finishes at provincials in her grade nine and 11 seasons.

“I feel really good about my decision to join the Tigers,” says King. “The team is very strong and made up of amazing players and I hope I can add to that!”

King has received highest grade awards in applied math and art. She will pursue a Bachelor of Science at Dalhousie this September.

“We are thrilled to add Sophia to our program,” says Scott. “She is a very good student and has had impressive high school and club volleyball seasons. She is a very good, physical athlete that has a real competitive edge which I really value. With a strong commitment and work ethic, Sophia has a really bright future and will be impactful for us as we strive towards our ultimate goal of being national champions.”

The Tigers won their sixth-consecutive AUS championship at the end of the 2017-18 season and will challenge for their seventh this fall.
