Tigers to Aigles Bleues 3-0

(Halifax, N.S.) – The Dalhousie Tigers defeated the Université de Moncton in straight sets Sunday afternoon at Dalplex.

In the first set, it was a see-saw affair, with neither team able to put together a run of more than two points. The Tigers started to pull away after 10 on kills from Lauren Koskowich (Calgary, Alta) and Julie Moore (Halifax, NS). The Tigers were leading 16-9 at the technical time out. They closed out the set, winning 25-10. Mieke DuMont (Kamloops, B.C.) had five kills to lead the Tigers, while Moncton's Pascale Doiron (Caraquet, N.B) had two.

The teams traded points again early in the second with some long rallies. Dalhousie led by seven at the technical time out on strong serving from Victoria Haworth (Waverley, N.S.) and aggressive play at the net by Victoria Turcot (Halifax, N.S.). The Tigers continued to move away from the Aigles Bleues and took the second set 25-14. Nicole Jamieson led the attack for Moncton with four kills, while Turcot and Moore had three apiece.

In the third and final set, Dalhousie controlled most of the action and were up 16-6 at the technical timeout. Moncton mounted a comeback on some strong serving from Emilie Landry (McLeod Hill, N.B.) and Sophie Bastarache (Truro, N.S.). The Tigers took the set 25-20 to end the match.

Subway Player of the game honours went Courtney Baker (Bridgewater, N.S.).

DuMont and Moore had nine kills apiece for the Tigers, while Doiron led the way for Moncton with five kills and 11 digs.

The Tigers improve to 10-1 and continue to sit atop the AUS standings. Moncton falls to 3-8 and are currently ranked fifth.

Moncton heads to Saint Mary's next Saturday, while the Tigers host Saint Mary's at home the next day.
