(Halifax, N.S.) – Dalhousie University women’s volleyball head coach Rick Scott is pleased to announce the commitment of Victoria Turcot to the Tigers 2017-18 lineup.

A 6’1 outside hitter, Turcot has been a member of the Tigers Volleyball club for the past five years, winning back-to-back provincial championships. The provincial championship MVP in her U16 season, she received team MVP honours that year, and in her U15 year.

Turcot has been a member of Nova Scotia’s provincial team for three years, and garnered national attention this past summer joining Volleyball Canada’s Youth National Development program after competing at the National Team Challenge Cup in Richmond, B.C. She is also a member of the 2017 Canada Summer Games core team.

A grade 12 student at J.L. Ilsley High School, Turcot earned the girls volleyball team and school’s rookie of the year awards in grade 10. She went on to be named the team’s MVP at the end of her grade 11 season.

“Since I started playing volleyball, it has been a dream and goal of mine to play for the Tigers,” says Turcot. “I look forward to training with some of the best athletes and coaches in Atlantic Canada and further develop as a player. It is an honour to be able to play for a team I have grown up watching and to ultimately attend a school that has the strong academic program I was looking for.”

An honours with distinction student, Turcot hopes to enroll in Dalhousie’s Faculty of Science next fall.

“I have watched Victoria grow and develop as a player throughout her high school, club and provincial team careers,” says Scott. “She has shown great commitment to the sport of volleyball and given that she is one of the top prospects coming out of Atlantic Canada, she has a chance to make a huge impact on the Dalhousie Tigers women’s volleyball team.”
