(Halifax, N.S.) – The Dalhousie Tigers (18-1) utilized a well-rounded attack to defeat the Saint Mary's Huskies (10-9) 3-0 (26-24, 25-15, 25-22) on Saturday evening at the Dalpex.

Middle blocker Victoria Haworth (Waverly, NS) and setter Courtney Baker (Bridgewater, NS) led the way for Dalhousie with eight kills each. Outside hitter Erica Dowling (Lower Sackville, NS) responded with seven total kills for the Huskies.

The Huskies came out strong in the first set, taking a commanding 16-8 lead into the technical timeout, led by Dowling who finished with four kills.

Dalhousie fought back however, taking 12 of the next 14 points and would eventually win the set 26-24. Outside hitter Mieke DuMont (Kamloops, BC) played a big role, recording all four of her kills in the set after the technical timeout.

Attack errors also hurt the Huskies down the stretch, as they finished with eight in the first set overall.

The Tigers carried their momentum into the second set. They went up 4-3 early and didn't relinquish their lead from that point on. Haworth was the catalyst on the attack, recording five kills.

It was much of the same in the third set, as Dalhousie took an early lead and didn't give it up for the remainder of the contest. Middle blocker Hannah Aldcorn (Calgary, AB) made her presence felt at the net, with a few key blocks.

The Huskies refused to go down without a fight though. They trailed by five heading into the technical timeout, but were able to get to within one point late, at 23-22, thanks to a well-balanced attack.

The Tigers would eventually close out the contest though, thanks to Baker, who had three critical kills down the stretch, including the game winner.

Saint Mary's is back in action next Saturday for their final regular season game of the year against UNB on the road, while the Tigers final regular season contest goes next Sunday on the road against Acadia.
