WOLFVILLE, N.S. - The Axewomen volleyball team found themselves on the losing end of tonight's match against the undefeated first place Dalhousie Tigers. Despite a hard fought match against the Tigers, Acadia succumbed to AUS defending champions in three sets.

The Axewomen, who entered the match with a 3-11 record, played much better than their record reflects with the first two sets close until the closing points.

Acadia led for the majority of the first set until the Tigers tied the game at 21-21 on a service ace by Emma Ciprick (Binscarth, M.B.). Dalhousie would score six points in a row to capture a 25-21 first set win.

The Tigers pushed out to a 7-3 lead early in the second game, but two kills by Daniella Trodel (Richmond Hill, O.N.) followed by Lauryn Renzella (Stouffville, O.N.) service ace and a Dalhousie attack error, tied the game at seven.

Dalhousie gained no lead greater than two points in the remaining portion of the second set until an Anna Dunn-Suen (Halifax, N.S.) kill advanced the Tigers to 23-20 and an eventual 25-20 second set win.

A discouraged Axewomen team fell quickly behind in the third and eventual final set after the Tigers posted three consecutive kills to take a 9-4 lead.

The Tigers created an insurmountable 20-10 lead and an eventual 25-13 third game win.

Dunn-Suen, named the Subway Player of the Game, posted a game high 11 kills and 0.235 hitting efficiency. Defense was split among three Tigers including Marisa Mota (Kitchener, O.N.) with 18 digs, Courtney Baker (Bridgetown, N.S.) with 10 and Emma Ciprick with 9.

Kailey Evans (St. Andrews, M.B.), named the Acadia Player of the Game, had 23 digs. Lauryn Renzella had Acadia's high of nine kills, while teammate Daniella Trodel added five.

The Axewomen drop to 3-12 and head to Moncton next Friday night at 7:00 p.m. The Tigers remain undefeated at 12-0 and host UNB next Friday at 6:00 p.m.
