Dalhousie wins final home game vs. Memorial

The Dalhousie Tigers defeated the Memorial Sea-Hawks 3-1 in their final game of the season in the Dalplex. This game was a make-up game for the February 6th contest that was postponed due to weather.

The Sea-Hawks jumped out to a quick start and took an early 9-7 lead in the first set. The Tigers fought back and by the technical timeout they were up 16-14. Mieke DuMont had a number of big kills for the Tigers which helped them take the lead. Dalhousie would cruise through the remainder of the set, winning by a score of 25-17.

The Tigers came out firing in the second set, taking an early 15-6 lead. The Sea-Hawks would not quit and battled back to make the score 16-12 at the technical timeout. The remainder of the set was very exciting with lots of back and forth play and a number of long rallies which excited the Dalplex crowd. The Tigers would eventually take a very closely contested set by a score of 25-21

Memorial started the third set strongly and used a service ace and kill from Sarah Dawes to take an early 5-0 lead. Trailing 14-10 at one point, the Tigers battled back to tie the set at 14-14. After more back and forth action and long rallies, The Sea-Hawks would take the set 26-24 off of a block by Kiersten Fey and Layna Levorson.

Dalhousie was dominant during the 4th set. The Tigers would only surrender 15 points in the frame and went on to win by a score of 25-15.

The Sea-Hawks were led by Jill Snow and Kiersten Fey who registered 13 and 14 kills respectively. Taryn Toscani led Memorial on defense with a game high 28 digs.

Mieke DuMont led the Tigers with 16 Kills. Marisa Mota led the Tigers defensively with 25 digs.

The Tigers travel to Acadia Sunday February 21st at 2pm for their final regular season game. Memorial will stay in Halifax to play the Saint Mary's Huskies tomorrow at 7pm.
