Huskies win 3-2 over rival CIS No. 8 Dal Tigers

(Halifax, NS) -The SMU Huskies upended the Dal Tigers 3-2 in AUS women's volleyball action from the Homburg Centre Sunday afternoon.

SMU held a 13-12 kill advantage in the first set yet the Tigers won 26-24.

An 11-8 second set SMU kill advantage produced the same result as the first, Dal winning 25-16.

Saint Mary's used a 12-7 kill advantage to take their first set in the third, 25-21.

Another 25-21 SMU score in the fourth set saw the game tied 2-2.

A fifth set saw both teams tied early at 1-1 and 3-3 when a 5-0 SMU run put the Huskies up 8-3.

Two quick Dal points were answered by SMU and another 3-1 spurt had the Huskies doubling up Dal 12-6.

Saint Mary's closed out the fifth set on a 3-2 run and won 15-8 and the match 3-2.

Courtney Baker (Bridgewater, NS) paced Dal with nine kills (6e 27ta .111) and teammate Anna Dunn-Suen (Halifax, NS) chipped in 10 kills (6e 52ta .077).

Dal drops to 9-3 (18points) and holds a slim two-point lead over second place 8-5 Memorial.

Erica Dowling (Lower Sackville, NS) led SMU with 15 kills (9e 48ta .125) while Jaime Rourke added 12 kills (7e 47ta .106) and Erin Smith (Moncton, NB) had nine (4e 25ta .200).

SMU has six points on the year and improves to 3-9 with two games in hand over both 3-11 Moncton and UNB.

Dal hosts Memorial in back to back games next weekend while SMU travels to 7-8 Acadia (14 points) Sunday at 2pm.
