The Dalhousie Tigers are pleased to announce the addition of Mieke DuMont to the women’s volleyball team for the upcoming season.

The 6’0” left side hitter from Kamloops, BC will look to make an immediate impact with the Tigers next season as they go after a third straight AUS title, and make noise at the national level after finishing fourth at this year’s CIS championship.

DuMont is very excited to get the chance to compete for the Tigers as she makes the journey from one coast to the other to play for Rick Scott’s championship squad.

“I’m extremely excited and proud to have an opportunity to play as a Tiger,” says DuMont. “The city and University have been very welcoming and I can’t wait to be with the team in September.”

The decorated left side hitter was a member of Team BC U18 in 2013 that finished with a silver medal at the National Team Challenge Cup, and was captain of the U16 team for two years that came in third and fifth place in the Western Elite Championships.

As the winner of the 2012 Randy Lindros Award for combining leadership, academics and athletics, she captained the U17 Junior Heat Volleyball Club, UBC Okanagan’s junior club, and was also the captain of her high school team this past year, the South Kamloops Secondary Titans. She led her high school team to a bronze medal at the 2013 AAAA Provincial Championships to finish off an accomplished high school career, where she was named to the AAAA provincial championship all-star team three years in a row.

“We are thrilled to be adding a player of Mieke’s ability and character,” says coach Scott. “She has excelled on the court at the high school, club and provincial team levels in British Columbia. Her strong work ethic, commitment and leadership qualities make her a great fit and excellent addition to our volleyball program.”

A consistent honours with distinction student in high school, DuMont is now enrolled in Dalhousie’s Kinesiology program, and will likely become a familiar face to those at the Dalplex next year who will eagerly wait for her debut with the black and gold in the fall.
