Tigers sweep Huskies

Tigers sweep Huskies

In a battle of the top two teams in the AUS Conference, cross-town rivals Dalhousie locked up the #1 seed, moving 4 points ahead of the Huskies.

Saint Mary's was swept 3 games to 0 and could not get much going all afternoon.  Early in the first set the Tigers got 8 straight points to jump out to an 11-2 lead which they never looked back from, eventually winning 25-19.  In the 2nd set the Huskies managed to hang around longer as a powerful kill by Olivia Henderson knotted the game 17-17, but the Tigers pulled away after that winning the set 25-20.  The Tigers then sealed the victory with a dominant 25-15 win in the 3rd set to extend their lead to 4 atop the AUS standings.  Saint Mary's had 27 errors on the day, 18 more than Dalhousie, which was a key factor in the final decision.  Shelby Michaels and Rachel Windhorst both reached double digits in kills on the afternoon, but it wasn't enough to upset the top ranked Tigers.

The Huskies will host Acadia Feb. 10th in a rescheduled game before playoffs start as they begin their quest for an AUS championship next weekend at Dal.
