A balanced attack led the UBC Thunderbirds to a 4-0 win over the host Dalhousie Tigers in the third quarterfinal of the 2024 BMO U SPORTS Women's Soccer Championship at Wickwire Field. Four different players found the net for UBC, who extended their winning streak to 17 games on the year.
After a scoreless first half, where the hosts held off the UBC attack, the T-Birds broke through in the second. Sienna Gibson opened the scoring in the 63rd minute with a well-placed shot from outside the box, assisted by Bailey Doerksen. Just five minutes later, Jade Taylor-Ryan doubled the lead, capitalizing on a setup from Nisa Reehal.
Jayda Thompson added to the tally in the 74th minute with an unassisted goal, before Sophia Ferreira capped off the scoring at 79 minutes, finishing a play from Olivia Gomez.
UBC dominated the match, recording 13 shots, with eight on goal, while Dalhousie managed only three shots total. UBC goalkeeper Dakota Beckett recorded two saves and achieved a clean sheet, while Dalhousie's Brianne Macdonald made four saves to keep the Tigers in the game.
With the win, UBC advances to Friday's second semifinal, where they will play the winner of the Cape Breton-Nipissing game at 7 p.m. Atlantic. Dalhousie falls into the consolation bracket, where they will play the loser of that game at 1:30 p.m.
