Tigers blank REDS 2-0
Olivia Jack and Taylor Heard scored for the Tigers in their 2-0 win over the UNB REDS.
The Dalhousie Tigers blanked the UNB REDS 2-0 in their homecoming game on Saturday night at Wickwire Field.
It was a quiet first half with the Tigers holding much of the possession. REDS keeper Breanna Habinski (Welland, ON) made several key saves to get the game knotted at zeros.
The second half started much the same as the first until the 74' minute when REDS defender Evan Eyubeh (Mississauga, ON) fouled Elise Evans just outside their box, resulting in a yellow card for Eyubeh. Olivia Jack (Stillwater Lake, NS) stepped up to take the free kick and curled it just inside the top corner to put the Tigers up 1-0 with 15 minutes to go.
The Tigers extended their lead as the clock hit 90' minutes when a long range shot from Taylor Heard (Ottawa, ON) was fumbled by the REDS keeper and found a way into the net.
Jack was named player of the game for the Tigers after going the 90 minutes for the black and gold.
The Tigers return to the field on October 5 when they travel to PEI. Kick off is set for 1:00 pm AT.
UNB heads to Sackville, New Brunswick on October 5 to face the Mounties. Kick off is also 1:00 pm AT.
