Burkett joins Tigers for 2021-22 season

Dalhousie Tigers women’s soccer head coach Cindy Tye is pleased to announce the commitment of Madeleine Burkett for the 2021-22 season.

A Burnaby, B.C. native, Burkett plays for Coquitlam Metro-Ford Soccer Club in the British Columbia Soccer Premier League (BCSPL). Last January, she and her teammates won the Winter Classics Tournament in Seattle. In 2018 Burkett had the opportunity to represent her community at the BC Summer Games capturing a silver medal while netting three goals in four games.

A multi-sport athlete, Burkett has earned many awards in her high school sports career including being named the 2016-17 Physical and Health Education Top Student and is a three-time winner of the Burnaby Mountain Secondary School Academic and Athletic Awards.

“I am incredibly thankful for the opportunity to study at Dalhousie and to continue my soccer journey,” says Burkett. “I am excited to grow as a person and as a player in the coming years. I am looking forward to joining the Dalhousie community and I am thrilled to be a Tiger!”

A multi-year member of Burnaby Mountain Secondary School’s honour roll with distinction and work ethic award list, Burkett will be studying kinesiology at Dalhousie.

“A natural goal scorer, Madeleine can play anywhere across the front three,” says Tye. “With her ability to play a couple different positions in attack she can be used as a link and able to threaten in behind with her pace. Highly competitive with a team-first focus, she will add value to the program on and off the field. Madeleine also achieves in the classroom and we are excited to welcome her to the Tigers!”

The 2020-21 season was cancelled due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
