Venkataraman leads Tigers to first regular season victory

The Tigers opened up the regular season on the road with a win over the Moncton Aigles Bleues Friday night in New Brunswick.

Fourth-year midfielder Maya Venkataraman (Summerland, BC) got things going early for the Tigers, scoring her first of the season in just the seventh minute of the game.

Zoe Brown, a second-year striker from Halifax, NS found the back of the net to notch her first AUS career goal 10 minutes later to give the Tigers a 2-0 lead.

The Tigers fininshed the half up by two headed into the lockerroom.

Dalhousie continued to control the game in the second half of the match. Second-year striker Riley Donovan (Toronto, ON) got her first regular season goal of the year on a pass from Kaitlyn Woodworth (Bridgewater, NS) in the 63rd minute.

Five minutes later, Venkataraman got her second goal of the game, giving the Tigers a solid 4-0 lead. Donovan got credit for an assist earning her second point of the night.

First-year keeper Annabel Gravely recorded her first career shutout, maiking one save in the match. Venkataraman earned Subway Player of the Game honours.

The Tigers host the Acadia Axewomen in their home opener Sunday, September 8, pending the effects of Hurricane Dorian.
