(Halifax, NS) – On a rainy Friday evening, the Dalhousie Tigers hosted the Mount Allison Mounties at Wickwire Field. Kate Fines earned the clean sheet in this one as the Tigers took the 3-0 victory.

The Mounties got the action going midway through the half with a two-on-one chance. A great ball came in for Taryn MacMillan (Moncton, NB) to take a chance against Tigers keeper Kate Fines (Halifax, NS). MacMillan took a strike, but Fines was charging off her line and slid to make the important stop.

The Tigers struck first however when Haley Birrell (Hammonds Plains, NS) sent a perfectly placed cross from just inside of the corner flag right to the penalty dot for Maya Venkataraman (Summerland, BC) to easily head home to give her team a 1-0 lead.

A few more shots came during the half, but nothing too threatening, as the teams went into the break with the Tigers leading 1-0.

There were a fair share of chances coming from corners early in the second half. That included one with Rachelle Lalande (Halifax, NS) on the receiving end, but the tough header was picked out by the Mountie keeper.

The Mounties were causing scrambles in front on corners of their own, but Fines was able to clean them up for the Tigers.

After a great defensive play by Jensen Hudder (White's Lake, NS), Birrell made a run down the right sideline and sent a long cross to the far post where Sofia Nicolls (Vancouver, BC) had timed her run perfectly to meet the ball with her head and give her a team a two-goal advantage.

The corners finally resulted in a scoring play, with Nicolls sending one in to the same spot her goal came from, and this time Lalande was able to finish it off to put the Tigers up 3-0 with just over 10 minutes to go.

As time ran out, the Tigers came away with the 3-0 win.

Sofia Nicolls earned herself the Subway Player of the Game title with a goal and an assist in this one.

The Tigers have a bit of a break before their next game, when they will travel to take on StFX on the 13th. Mount Allison will take on the other Halifax team later this weekend, hosting Saint Mary's on Sunday.
