Tigers tie 2-2 with Axewomen

On Friday, October 2, the Dalhousie Tigers tied the Acadia Axewomen 2-2 when visiting Acadia's home field, Raymond Stadium. With 187 supporters in attendance, Dalhousie had an early start and a strong lead until the Axewomen tied it up in the last minutes of play.

Dalhousie kicked off the game with an early goal at the four minute mark by Rachelle Lalande (Halifax, NS), assisted by teammate Doriana Homerski (Waterdown, ON). This allowed the Tigers to take the lead for the first half. With 9 shots from Dalhousie and 8 shots from Acadia in the first half, both goalies were put to the test. However, Acadia's goalie, Emma Connell (Hampton, NS), and Dlahousie's goalie, Katie Morgan (Calgary, AB), managed to keep the score at 1-0 by the end of the first half.

Acadia pushed back in the second half and came up with a goal from Meghan Earle (Mt. Pearl, NL) in the 54th minute to tie up the game 1-1. Later that half, Dalhousie's Kristy McGregor-Bales (Ottawa, ON) was handed a yellow card soon followed by a goal from Kristy just five minutes later. This gave Dalhousie a 2-1 lead until there was just 3 minutes left in the game. Acadia's Kinsella Noseworty-Smith (Wolfville, NS) scored the tying, and last, goal of the game.

The final score was a 2-2 tie for the Tigers and the Axewomen. Dalhousie played UPEI (2-5-1) on October 3rd and lost 1-0 which has brought the Tigers (2-4-2) to 5th place in the standings with 8 points. Acadia (4-1-2) came away with a 1-0 win against StFX (5-1-1) in their game on October 4th which brought them to a tie for second place in the standings with Memorial (4-1-2), both at 14 points. The Tigers play again on October 16th against Saint Mary's. Acadia will also be playing on the 16th against Mount Allison.
