Panthers squeak out 1-0 win over Tigers

On a cold, rainy Saturday afternoon at Wickwire Field the UPEI Panthers took down the Dalhousie Tigers by a score of 1-0 in AUS women's soccer action. In a game that didn't produce many quality-scoring opportunities on either side, the Panthers managed to capitalize on one of their few chances in the game.

The first half went scoreless as both teams battled around middle field, struggling to get the ball inside the 18-yard box. The Panthers were unable to record a shot during the frame while the Tigers had four.
Emilie Pelletier scored the lone goal for the Panthers in the 61st minute. Pelletier was the recipient of a beautiful free kick from Jerika Gimpel that came from a couple yards outside of the box. Pelletier was able to head the ball over Dalhousie keeper, Katie Morgan.
After the Pelletier tally the Tigers turned up the pressure, out-shooting the Panthers 5-2 in the second half.
The best chance for Dalhousie came in the final minutes of regulation when Stephaine Dyck fed a ball into the box to Kristy McGregor-Bales who was left all alone. McGregor-Bales was cut off by a charging Panthers keeper.
The Tigers (2-4-2) will be off next weekend for Thanksgiving and will be back at Wickwire Field on October 16th when they host Saint Mary's (1-5-1). UPEI (2-4-1) is in action tomorrow against the Huskies.
