The Dalhousie's women's hockey team beat the University of New Brunswick Reds 2-1 in overtime this Friday, at the Halifax Forum.

The Tigers started the first period with several attacks on goal, and key saves from REDS goaltender, Kendra Woodland (Kamloops, BC). Payton Hargreaves (Whitby, ON) put the REDS on the board when she shot from the slot off a pass from Frederike Cyr (Candiac, QC) seven minutes into the first period.

The Reds led 1-0 for nearly the entire game. After UNB was called for roughing, Tigers head coach Troy Ryan called what proved to be an important timeout. After a couple of cycles of the puck, Brooklyn Paisley (Shawnigan Lake, BC) fired a shot wide producing a rebound for Lexie Small (Grand Falls, NL) to pounce on, forcing an overtime period.

After much back and forth during overtime, a stolen puck by Paisley was played forwarded to a streaking Kennedy Whelan (Alliston, ON). Whelan was in all alone on Woodland and fired home the game-winning goal, glove side.

Kennedy Whelan took home the Subway Player of the Game honours for her game-winning goal.

Now with a 7-9 record, the Tigers will take on the Saint Mary's Huskies in an exhibition match on December 30 at 7 pm, when they resume their season after the holidays. The REDS will play the MacEwan Griffins at the Clare Drake Arena on December 30 at 8:15 pm, also in exhibition play. Both teams return to AUS regular season action when the REDS host the Tigers on January 6.
