Penner commits to Tigers for 2021-22 season

Dalhousie Tigers women’s hockey head coach Troy Ryan is pleased to announce the commitment of Emma Penner for the 2021-22 season.

A forward from Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ont., Penner plays for Ridley College in both the Conference of Independent Schools Athletic Association (CISAA) and the Junior Women’s Hockey League (JWHL). She and her teammates won the CISAA championship in both 2018-19 and 2019-20, going undefeated in the most recent season. Penner earned the most improved player award at Ridley College for her efforts in the 2019-20 season.

“I am very excited and grateful to attend Dalhousie University and join their women’s hockey program,” says Penner. “The combination of great academics and athletics will give me the opportunity to pursue my goals as a student-athlete as well as the amazing coaching staff that will allow me to grow as a player.”

A four-year recipient of academic honours at Ridley College, Penner will be studying kinesiology at Dalhousie.

“We are excited to have Emma as part of our program,” says Ryan. “She was highly recommended from her coach at Ridley and I have been very impressed with her professionalism, values and character throughout the recruiting process. Emma wants to win and is eager to get started.”

The 2020-21 women’s hockey season was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
