(Halifax, NS) – In Friday night hockey action, the Dalhousie Tigers host the UPEI Panthers for the first time this season. A lone goal in the second period boosted the Tigers to a 1-0 win over the Panthers.

Both teams came out strong with multiple opportunities within the first, but couldn't seem to find the back of the net. Goalies Fabiana Patricca (Woodbridge, ON) for the Tigers and Camille Scherger (Lloydminister, AB) for the Panthers held their ground in their nets leaving the period scoreless.

The Tigers got themselves on the scoreboard within the first 37 seconds of the second.

Lauren Ellerton (Toronto, ON) received the puck off a face-off and passed it down deep into the Panthers end to Danica Phillips (Barrie, ON). With a Quick pass to Bianca Canade (Mississauga, ON) out front, Scherger wasn't fast enough and Canade easily put the puck in the net.

The Panthers turned up the pressure keeping possession in the Tigers end for multiple attempts.

Kaylee Dufresne (Orleans, ON) broke into the neutral zone, and hit a cross ice pass to Rachel Colle (Toronto, ON), who's shot was deflected by Patricca back to Defresne for a second attempt easily stopped again by Patricca.

The Tigers were able to fend off the Panthers to end the period in the lead 1-0.

The Panthers came out in the third with Maria Clinton (Souris, PE) sneaking past the Tigers defensive line to get a clear shot but is shut down, once again.

Tara Morning (Aurora, ON) returns the effort with a close call in the Panthers end. A win off the faceoff placed the puck on the stick of Morning for a shot from the front but it was swallowed by Scherger.

The last five minutes had multiple penalties on both sides leaving the Panthers in a tough position on a three on five penalty kill. A last-ditch effort, Panthers pull Scherger to give them the extra attacker but are unable to capitalize on the opportunity.

The Tigers hold out for a 1-0 win over the Panthers

Fabiana Patricca was named Subway Player of the Game,  she picked up 32 saves in the shutout victory. 

The Panthers are off to Antigonish to take on the X-Women tomorrow, and the Tigers see the Huskies next weekend.
