(Halifax, N.S.) – The Dalhousie Tigers women's hockey team hosted the UPEI Panthers Friday night, earning a 2-1 win in double overtime.

Both teams came out firing in the first period, with the Panthers out-shooting the Tigers 13-10, but neither were able to find the back of the net and headed into the locker room scoreless.

It was more of the same in the second period with UPEI's Camille Scherger (Lloydminster, AB) turning away all nine of the Tigers shots, while Fabiana Petricca (Woodbridge, ON) handled all of the Panthers six scoring attempts.

The third period was a different story. Jenna Pellerin (Halifax, NS) put one past Petricca on a pass from Leah Byrne (Glace Bay, NS) to give the Panthers a 1-0 lead less than 10 minutes in. Annika Rose (North Vancouver, BC) responded for the Tigers eight minutes later with a Panther player in the penalty box. That would end all of the scoring in regulation time, sending the game into overtime.

Neither team was able to score in the first overtime period. Lisa MacLean (Inverness, NS) scored just 20 seconds into the second overtime period to give the Tigers the 2-1 win.

Tigers goalie Fabiana Petricca earned Subway Player of the Game honours, making 36 saves. The Tigers improve to 5-4, while the Pnathers fall to 2-4-3.

Both teams are back in action again on Saturday, November 11. The Panthers host Moncton in a 3pm game, while Tigers head to StFX for a 7pm start.
