Tigers defeat X-Women 3-2 in OT

(Halifax, N.S.) – Danika Phillips scored three minutes into overtime to give the Tigers a 3-2 win over the visiting StFX X-Women Friday night at the Halifax Forum.

The Tigers jumped out to an early lead in the game with captain Lisa MacLean (inverness, N.S.) scoring less than four minutes into the first period on a pass from Jesse Rietveld. The X-Women were unable to capitalize on any of their 10 shots giving Dalhousie a 1-0 lead heading into the first intermission.

Dalhousie got their second goal of the game from Corinne Desjardins (Ottawa, Ont.) early in the second period. Bianca Canadé (Mississauga, Ont.) and Ariana Pinchuk (Sherwood Park, Alt.) picked up the assists. StFX continued to pressure Tigers goalie Fabiana Petricca (Woodbridge, Ont.) were rewarded with their first goal of the game with less than two minutes left in the second period. Lindsey Donovan notched her goal of the regular season with Lydia Schurman (Summerside, P.E.) and Santana Gravelle (Lumsden, S.K.) picking up the assists. The Tigers headed to the second intermission with a 2-1 lead.

The X-Women continued to press for another goal, outshooting the Tigers 13 to nine in the third period looking for the equalizer. Their persistence paid off with Emmerson Elliott (Aurora, Ont.) finding the back of the Tigers net midway through the third. Sarah Bujold (Riverview, N.B) recorded the assist. The period would end in a 2-2 tie, sending the game into overtime.

Danika Phillips (Barrie, Ont.) scored the overtime winner for the Tigers less than four minutes into the overtime frame, giving the Tigers a 3-2 victory. The win improved the Tigers record to 3-3-0 while the X-Women recorded their first loss of the season, giving them a 4-1-0 record.

Fabiana Petricca stopped and incredible 40 shots for the Tigers while X-Women goalie Carey Molnar (London, Ont.) had 21 saves. Petricca was named the Subway Player of the Game for her efforts.

The Tigers are back in action against UPEI on November 3rd on PEI while the X-Women host the Saint Mary's Huskies Saturday, October 28.
