Tigers drop last regular season game 5-3

Sackville, NB – The Mount Allison University Women's Hockey Mounties broke a 13 game losing streak in their final home stand of the 2016-17 season when they defeated the visiting Dalhousie Tigers 5-3 at Sackville's Tantramar Veterans' Memorial Civic Centre Saturday night.

8 graduating seniors were recognized in pre-game ceremonies.

The teams played through a scoreless first period.

The Mounties opened scoring in the match when Kara Anthony (Toronto, ON) netted a powerplay goal at 3:27. Jennifer Dillon (Summerside, PE) put Mount A up by 2 for 10 seconds before Dalhousie's Victoria MacIntosh (Hammonds Plains, NS) replied to bring the score to 2-1 at the end of 40 minutes.

The teams scored 5 goals over the third period. Jennifer Bell (Miramichi, NB); Dillon on the powerplay with her second and Anthony on a last minute empty-netter for her second got on the scoresheet for the Mounties. The Tigers responded with Corinne Desjardins' (Ottawa, ON) powerplay marker and a single by Tara Morning (Aurora, ON).

Keri Martin (Brampton, ON) took the win in the Mount Allison net turning back 28 of 31 shots. Fabiana Petricca (Woodbridge, ON) was assessed the loss. She stopped 38 of 43 Mountie shots.

The Mounties, who did not qualify for the AUS post-season, close out their 2016-17 campaign Sunday with a road game versus St. Francis Xavier at 2pm in Antigonish, NS. The Dalhousie Tigers finished in 6th and will face the regular season 3rd place finisher in the quarter-finals.
