Maclean’s three points leads Tigers past Huskies 3-2

(Halifax) The Dalhousie University Tigers beat the Saint Mary's University Huskies 3-2 on Sunday at Alumni Arena in Halifax NS. 

The loss drops the Huskies to 14-2-3. Their 31-points on the season has them one point back of the STU Tommies for top spot in the AUS. 

The Tigers improved their record to 5-13-1. Their 11-points has them in the final playoff spot in the AUS, four-points up on the MTA Mounties and four-points back of the UdeM AiglesBleus for fifth place.  

Fabiana Petricca (Woodbridge,ON) was outstanding in goal for the Tigers making 31 saves to pick up the first win of her AUS career. She now has a .933 save percentage and a 1-3 record on the season. 

Lisa Maclean (Inverness, NS) (8) had a goal and two assists, while Annika Rose (North Vancouver, BC) (1) and Elizabeth MacArthur (Truro,NS) (6) each scored power play goals for the Tigers. 

Rebecca Clark (Keswick, ON) made 16 saves for the Huskies. She now has a .937 save percentage and a 10-2-3 record. 

Breanna Lanceleve (Middle Sackville, NS) (6, 7) scored both goals for the Huskies. 

The Tigers controlled the momentum in the first outshooting the Huskies 12-9 with most of the Huskies shots coming on the power play. 

Maclean opened the scoring on a tremendous individual effort 5:13 into the game. She dug the puck free behind her own net and wheeled her way through traffic into the neutral zone.  She dished to Abigail Shearer (Falmouth, NS) across the Huskies blue line and Shearer flipped it to the corner for Danika Phillips (Barrie, ON)  After a battle on the wall,Maclean dug it free and worked to the front of the net where she roofed a backhand for the 1-0 goal.  

Rose made it 2-0 Tigers on the power playwith 2:54 left to go in the first. Ashley Money (Langton,ON) won a puck battle in the right corner and tapped it to Maclean who sent it back to Rose on the point.  Rose walked the blue line then snapped a shot high glove for the goal.  

MacArthur's power play marker came with 5:10 left in the second. Becca Chilvers (Bradford,ON) got the puckto Maclean in the left corner.  Maclean did a full lap of the Huskies zone working up the wall across the blue line and down to the right cornerbefore setting up behind the net.  She fed MacArthur in front and after a few whacks she was able to send it in for the 3-0 goal. 

Lanceleve got the Huskies on the board just 26 seconds into the third. Caitlin Manning (Cambridge,ON) won a faceoff in the Tigers zone back to Harrietha on the left point.  She sent it to Lanceleve to the right of the net.  Lanceleve worked to the top of the circle before turning towards the slot and ripping a shot through traffic that went in high glove side. 

With the goalie pulled and the extra attacker on the ice Lanceleve made it 3-2 with 55 seconds left in the third. Manning sent the puck from the right corner back to Sarah Douglas (Whitby, ON) on the point.  Douglas put a shot on goal and Lanceleve was able to grab the rebound on the door step and slide it in.  

The Tigers were two for five on the power play, while the Huskies were zero for five. 

Shots were 33-19 overall for the Huskies including a 13-2 shot advantage in the third.
