Tigers finish pre-season weekend action with a 1-2 record

The Tigers women's hockey team finished this past weekend with one win and two losses. Two of the games were decided in an exciting shootout fashion: Friday's 3-2 win against St. FX and Sunday's 5-4 loss against UPEI.

In goal for the Tigers Friday night in their shootout win was veteran goaltender Mati Barrett. She stopped 18 shots throughout the battle and was able to come out on top against two shooters in the electrifying finish. Rachel Carr had a noteworthy game tallying two assists on both Ashley Money and Jesse Rietveld goals. The final shootout goal was scored by Rietveld which gave the Tigers a "W" in their pre-season debut as the 2016-17 team.

Saturday's game against the SMU Huskies resulted in a 3-0 loss for the Tigers. First year Fabiana Patricca was given the nod to start in goal for the Tigers where she stopped an impressive 39 shots. On the other hand, the Tigers were only able to test the Huskies goaltender 15 times throughout the challenge. The Tigers will get a rematch on October 5th during their final exhibition battle before the regular season.

The Tigers final game of the weekend was a barnburner which ended in a 5-4 loss against the UPEI Panthers. Both teams looked sharp and displayed some exciting back and forth action for 60 minutes in Truro, NS. The goal scoring was spread out between four different players on the Tigers – an excellent sign of what to expect come regular season time.

The Tigers home opener is on October 15th at 6:30 pm when they take on the UPEI Panthers.
