Women’s hockey Tigers bolster defensive line for 2016-17 season

(Halifax, N.S.) - Tigers Head Coach Sean Fraser is pleased to announce the commitment of Pacific Steelers product Annika Rose to the Tigers 2016-17 roster.

A North Vancouver B.C. native, Rose joins the Tigers after a season with the Pacific Steelers in the Junior Women’s Hockey League in Vancouver B.C. The 5’5 defence woman played in 29 games with the Steelers last season and registered four points.

Prior to joining the Steelers, she was a member of the Pursuit of Excellence Hockey Academy U19 prep team in Kelowna B.C. where she recorded 12 points in 32 games during the 2014/15 season. In two seasons there, Rose helped lead them to a silver medal in 2014 and bronze medal in 2015 at the Female World Sport School Challenge. In 2014-15 the team had a record of 22 wins, eight losses and two ties, ranking them the number two Canadian U19 prep program.

“Annika is a solid puck moving D that makes a very good first pass,” says Fraser. “She is a great skater and uses her speed to join the rush.  We are excited to have Annika on our blue line next season and will help solidify our defence moving into the 2016-17 season.”

A three-time Honour Roll and Work Ethic List of Distinction student from George Elliot Secondary School, Rose will begin her studies in Kinesiology in September.

“I am excited to play at a school as renowned as Dalhousie for both academics and athletics,” says Rose. “I’m so delighted to be offered the opportunity to play as a Tiger and cannot wait to get started.”

The Tigers women’s hockey team qualified for the AUS quarter final this season and will be looking to build off that success next year.
