(Halifax, NS) On Friday night at the Civic Centre the Dalhousie Tigers fell 3-1 to the St. Thomas Tommies in AUS women's hockey playoff action. The Tommies took the best of three series 2-0 eliminating the Tigers from the AUS playoffs.

The first period went scoreless as neither team could net the all-important first goal in the opening frame. The Tommies slightly edged out the Tigers in the shot category 8-7.

Emily Macintosh was sent to the box early on in the second period but the Tommies could not capitalize on the opportunity.

Emily Oleksuk netted the first goal of the game halfway through the second period on the Tommies third power play chance. Kelty Apperson and Lauren Henman were credited with the helpers.

St. Thomas took a 1-0 lead heading to the final 20 minutes of play.

With their season on the line the Tigers came out in the third period firing. Kenzie MacPhee tied the game up just over a minute into the final frame.

The Tigers found themselves in some serious trouble in the final 10 minutes of the game forced to kill a 5-on-3 power play for a full two minutes. Dalhousie came up big, killing the power play and shifting the momentum in their favour.

With just under five minutes remaining in the third period Kelty Apperson came in on an odd man rush and ripped a slap shot past Dalhousie goalie Jessica Severeyns putting the Tommies up 2-1.

The Tommies managed to hold off a late push from the Tigers. Teah Anderson sealed the deal for St. Thomas when she notched an empty net goal with less than a minute remaining. Kelty Apperson earned the assist on the final marker and was also named Subway Player of the Game for her three-point performance.

The Tommies will now face off against the Moncton Aigles Bleues in a best-of-three semifinal playoff series which will begin next week.
