The Saint Mary's Huskies took down the Dalhousie Tigers 3-1 in the Tigers home opener in AUS women's hockey action. In a fairly even contest the Huskies capitalized on their chances while the Tigers struggled to mount a solid attack.

Breanna Lanceleve scored the first goal of game off a big rebound from Dalhousie goalie Mati Barrett half way through the first. Hayley Halilihan & Laura Polak were credited with the assist.

It looked like Dalhousie had the advantage in possession in the frame but really didn't challenge Saint Mary's goalie, Rebecca Clark.

Saint Mary's would take a 1-0 lead into the dressing room after 20 minutes.

The Huskies extended their lead at 12:41 in the second period on the powerplay with a goal from Cailtyn Manning. After a scramble in front of the Tigers cage the puck found its way to Manning who slipped it past Barrett.

The Tigers were unable to counter finding themselves down 2-0 after two periods of play.

Rachel Carr gave Dalhousie some life with three minutes left in the game ripping a one-timer through traffic that some how found the back of net. Lisa MacLean put the puck right in the sweet spot for Carr to rip home.

The comeback was short lived as the Tigers got a holding penalty with just over two minutes left.

Caitlyn Schell put things away for the Huskies scoring an empty netter on the powerplay at 19:47.

Clark stopped 18 of 19 shots while Barrett stopped 20 of the 22 she faced.

Dalhousie (1-4) will host UPEI(2-1) at 6:30 on Saturday, October 31st at the Civic Centre. Saint Mary's (3-2) next action comes on Sunday, November 1 at home against UPEI.
