Dalhousie Tigers win 3-1 over St. Mary’s Huskies in first pre-season game

(Halifax, NS) Dalhousie beat Saint Mary's 3-1 in their first pre-season game on Monday, September 21st hosted by the Huskies with 85 supporters in attendance.

Dalhousie started the first period strong with a goal in the 8th minute by newly recruited Laura Ellerton (Toronto, ON) and was assisted by Elizabeth McArthur (Truro, NS).  Just minutes later, Dalhousie came out with a second goal scored by Lisa MacLean (Inverness, NS), assisted by Taylor Reichheld (Haggersville, ON).

Saint Mary's Brianna Soper (Oshawa, ON) scored the first goal for the Huskies in the 13th minute from an assist made by Hayley Halilihan (Miramichi, NB). This put Saint Mary's on the score board to finish the first period just one goal behind the Tigers at 2-1.

Dalhousie's Jesse Rietveld (Pelham, ON) secured the Tigers lead with a goal in the 7th minute of the second period off of an assist made by Lisa MacLean.  Saint Mary's tested the Tigers with twenty shots made in the second period, but no goals. By the end of the second period, the Tigers held a 3-1 lead over the Huskies.

In the third period, Saint Mary's had fifteen shots against Dalhousie, but couldn't get the puck in the net. The final period ended with a score of 3-1 for the Tigers with no goals scored by either side.

The game finished with a 3-1 win for the Tigers over the Huskies. Saint Mary's next pre-season game will be on September 24th against Waterloo at 4pm in Antigonish, NS.  Dalhousie's next pre-season game is away on October 1st against StFX at 3pm.
