The St. Thomas Tommies earned one point in the AUS women's hockey standings after falling 3-2 in overtime to the Dalhousie Tigers, Sunday afternoon at the Grant-Harvey Centre in front of 192 spectators.

Jenna Marita Alfieri had two points for the Tigers, while Kenya Marcelline and Kelty Apperson had two points each in a losing cause.

"I thought we deserved a better fate than what we got today," Tommies head coach Peter Murphy said. "I thought we did everything we could to win that game."

The Tigers hit the score sheet midway through the first when Courtney Sheedy capitalized on the power play, but Myfanwy Thomson responded for the Tommies just 10 seconds later to tie the game 1-1.

Alfieri reclaimed the lead for the Tigers late in the frame, sliding the puck past STU netminder Taylor Cook.

Despite outshooting the Tigers 15-10 in the period, the Tommies trailed 2-1 after 20 minutes.

The Tommies evened the score 15:20 into the second when Marcelline tipped a shot between DAL goaltender Jessica Severeyns's legs.

The third period saw both teams searching for the game winner, and both teams had their share of opportunities—the Tigers had two consecutive power plays thanks to two Marina Sergina penalties and the Tommies were on the man advantage for four minutes after DAL was penalized for checking to the head.

At the end of regulation the game was still knotted at 2-2, forcing overtime.

Alfieri netted the overtime winner just 1:23 into the extra frame, beating Cook low to give the Tigers the 3-2 win.

Despite the loss, Murphy was pleased to get a point out of the game.

"Every point is important, so obviously that's great," he said. "I was pleased with the effort level we brought out. There are still some things we can do better, but for the most part we did a good job today

The Tommies are back in action Wednesday when they host the University of Prince Edward Island Panthers. The Tigers take to the ice again January 30 when they host the Panthers.
