Mounties top Tigers 2-1

Mounties top Tigers 2-1

The Mount Allison Mounties won their third game of the season on Sunday night at the Halifax Forum 2-1 over the Dalhousie Tigers.

After suffering a tough loss on Saturday afternoon to the StFX X-Women the Tigers were looking to bounce back with a strong effort against the Mounties. Marita Alfieri gave Dalhousie the start they were looking for scoring on a give and go with Joleen MacInnis.

The Alfieri goal was the only tally of the period giving the Tigers a 1-0 lead after the first.

Mount Allison won the second period outscoring the Tigers 2-0 in the frame. Rosie Heffernan scored a shorthanded goal early that seemed to deflate the Tigers. Mackenzie Lalonde added to the Mounties momentum beating Mati Barrett less then three minutes later.

The Mounties two unanswered goals gave them a 2-1 lead over the Tigers after 40 minutes.

The Tigers had multiple opportunities in the third period but could not seem to beat Kerri Martin who made 30 saves for the Mounties.

Mount Allison improves to 3-6-1 and will play the second best team in the AUS, Moncton (7-2-1) next Saturday.

Dalhousie (3-7) plays the Saint Mary's Huskies (4-5-1) on Wednesday in the Halifax Forum.
