Kaitlyn Ferrier led the Tigers with 25 points.
HALIFAX, Nova Scotia – The Memorial Sea-Hawks secured a thrilling 65-64 victory over the Dalhousie Tigers on Thursday night at The Works Fieldhouse, surviving a late push by the visitors to claim their first win of the season.
Dalhousie entered the fourth quarter with a commanding 50-47 lead, after outscoring Memorial 24-14 in the third period. However, Memorial rallied in the final minutes, led by key free throws from Alyssa Jenkins and a crucial three-pointer by Brooke LeDevehat. The Sea-Hawks shot just 33.3% from the field in the second half, but their aggressive defense and timely scoring were enough to pull out the win.
The Tigers, led by Kaitlyn Ferrier's 25 points, saw their once-comfortable lead slip away in the final moments. Ferrier struggled with her shooting in the second half, finishing 11-24 from the field but could not secure the game-winning shot in the closing seconds. Melina Collins contributed 14 points, but Dalhousie struggled overall, shooting just 38.7% from the field and 25.9% from beyond the arc.
Memorial, despite shooting just 32.8% from the field, relied on solid contributions from Jenkins (18 points), LeDevehat (13 points), and Brooklyn Martens (9 points, 7 rebounds). The Sea-Hawks capitalized on their free-throw opportunities, hitting 17 of 25 attempts, while Dalhousie made 9 of 14.
In the end, it was Memorial's defense and ability to make critical plays down the stretch that sealed the victory. The Sea-Hawks forced 21 turnovers, scoring 12 points off those miscues, while Dalhousie could only manage 21 points off Memorial's 18 turnovers.
The team return to the gym on Saturday for the second game of their doubleheader.
