Ferrier scores 19 in loss to Axewomen

WOLFVILLE – The Acadia women's basketball program got back in the win column on Saturday night at home as they topped the Dalhousie Tigers 98-65 in front of 645 fans at Stu Aberdeen Court in Wolfville.  

Elizabeth Iseyemi (Dartmouth, NS) moved into top spot in the country in scoring with her performance as she finished with 36 points. Named player of the game for Acadia, she pulled in nine rebounds and picked up five assists.  

Dalhousie's player of the game, Kaitlyn Ferrier (Calgary, AB) had 19 points to lead the Tigers. 

All but one Acadia player scored in the game, with starters Samantha Russell (Dartmouth, NS) and Bianca Helmig (Speyer, Germany) finishing with 15 and 11 points respectively. Russell had eight boards, while Helmig had a game-high seven assists.  

Off the bench, Ryan George (Moncton, NB) was a perfect 2-for-2 from the floor and 2-for-2 from the charity strip to finish with six points and five rebounds. 

Tigers' starters Simona Matic (Belgrade, Serbia) and Eva Widmeyer (Dartmouth, NS) finished in double-digit scoring, dropping 15 and 14 points.  

The two teams will meet again on Saturday night in Halifax when the Axewomen travel to the Dalplex. Acadia (9-4) will look to sweep the weekend over Dalhousie (0-13) as they sit tied for second place in the AUS with Saint Mary's with 18 points.  

UNB has clinched a playoff spot sitting with 24 points as of Friday night. In a tie for fourth in the AUS with 10 points are StFX, UPEI, Cape Breton and Memorial.
