(FREDERICTON, NB) The UNB REDS beat the Dalhousie Tigers 92-58 in Atlantic University Sport women's basketball action Friday night at UNB's Richard J. Currie Center.

Leah Travers (Calgary, AB) led the REDS attack with 22 points, four rebounds and four assists. She was named the Tim Horton's Player of the Game.

"I was just shooting my shot and sticking with it, trusting my teammates, they always get me open, so I was finding space and I thought we played as a team really well tonight," said Travers.

Kylee Speedy (Fredericton, NB) led the home team in the opening quarter, scoring nine points on back-to-back-to-back three-point shots.

The REDS were up 27-13 after ten minutes.

In the second quarter, the Tigers picked up their tempo, but could do little to slow the REDS.

At the half, UNB led 56-34 on 55-percent shooting from the field.

UNB kept the Tigers at arm's length in the third quarter, leading 73-47 through 30 minutes and outscored Dal 19-11 down the stretch to secure the win.

"It's big for us," said Travers. "We want to keep the momentum we have and finish the semester strong. It's big to have a dominant win going into a tough game against SMU tomorrow so we're feeling good."

Speedy finished the night with 18 points while Jayda Veinot (Port Williams, NS) scored just nine in limited minutes.

Erin Ingalls (St. George, NB) had seven rebounds for the REDS.

Sydney Guker-Wickie (Kitchener, ON) led the Tigers, scoring 17 points, while Kaitlyn Ferrier (Calgary, AB) chipped in 15 and Anna Parsons (Calgary, AB) grabbed a game-high eight rebounds.

"We're a group that's getting better, moving in the right direction, it's just the consistency part," said Tigers' assistant coach Parker Regan. "I thought they shot the three very well. UNB, give them credit, they're one of the better teams in the country. There were a lot of things at our end that could've been better, but there were some moments that I thought we did pretty well."

With the win the REDS are now 10-and-1 and continue to sit atop the AUS standings.

Dal remains winless at 0-and-12.

The Tigers return to action next Friday when they visit Acadia for a 6:00pm tip.

The REDS are back at it on Saturday, playing host to the Saint Mary's Huskies. Game time is 6:00pm.
