The University of New Brunswick Reds defeated the Dalhousie Tigers 93-51 at Dalplex Saturday night.

The game opened with a made jump shot from UNB's Katie Butts (Ottawa, ON) just over 20 seconds in.

Sydney Guker-Wickie (Kitchener, ON) responded moments later, scoring off an assist from Kaitlyn Ferrier (Calgary, AB).

Lillian Fuller (Dartmouth, NS) got an easy basket off of a beautiful pass from Megan Stewart (Saint John, NB), bringing the Reds onto level terms with 1:18 left in the first quarter.

The Reds capped off the quarter with a made 3-pointer from Butts. The Reds led 15-12 after one quarter.

Simona Matic (Belgrade, Serbia) continues to impress in her first season.  She opened the second quarter with a mid-range jumper to bring Dal within one point of the UNB lead. Guker-Wickie hustled for the offensive rebound to assist Matic.

Erin Ingalls (St. George, NB) got the tough and-one to fall and made the free throw to give the Reds a 21-19 with 5:11 left of the quarter.

With 3:12 left of the first half, Matic crossed up her defender and finished at the rim, making it look easy, bringing the Tigers within one point.

The 2022 AUS MVP, Jayda Veinot (Port Williams, NS), rejected a Dal player in transition at the rim with about two minutes left of the half. Veinot was also impactful on the offensive end, leading the Reds in scoring in the first half with 14 points.

The Reds finished the half up 35-29 as Kylee Speedy was left open for a mid-range jump shot with three seconds left.

Ferrier was outstanding for the Tigers in the first half, capping it off with 14 points and finishing the game with 23 points.

The Reds were on fire in the third quarter, out-scoring the Tigers 27-10.

Reese Baxendale (Apohaqui, NB) opened the frame with a 3-pointer to put the Reds up 38-29.

Butts made a jump shot with 10 seconds left of the quarter to give the Reds a 62-39 lead going into the final quarter.

At the start of the fourth quarter, Veinot added to her scoring tally with a 3-pointer. Veinot finished the game with 30 points.

The Tigers next opportunity to get in the win column will be on January 5th at Saint Mary's.

The Reds next play on January 5th in UPEI.
