Tigers fall to Marauders on final day of Savoy Tournament

The University of New Brunswick Reds defeated the Laurentian University Voyageurs 99-53 to open the final games of the Dr. Carolyn Savoy Memorial Women's Basketball Tournament on Sunday at Dalplex.

The score after the first half was 43-26, giving the Reds an early lead.

Kylee Speedy (Fredericton, NB) led the Reds in scoring with 21 points and 5 3-pointers. Two other Reds reached the 20-point mark, the 2021-22 AUS MVP Jayda Veinot (Port Williams, NS) and Leah Travers (Calgary, AB).

UNB shot 46.7 per cent from 3-point range in the win to cap off an undefeated weekend.

Amber-Lyn May (Calgary, AB) led the Voyageurs in scoring in the loss with 17 points. Rileigh Smith (Brampton, ON) added 13 points.

The Saint Mary's University Huskies beat the University of Lethbridge Pronghorns 77-49 in Sunday's second game to continue an undefeated pre-season.

It was a tight first quarter, with SMU leading 19-17. The Huskies pulled away in the second quarter, outscoring the Pronghorns 23-10 and taking a 42-27 lead

Clara Gascoigne (Dartmouth, NS) led SMU in scoring with 14 points, missing just two shots. Four other Huskies reached double-digit scoring figures.

Piper Dobbelsteyn (Edmonton, AB) led Lethbridge in scoring with 8 points in the loss.

The McMaster University Marauders defeated the Dalhousie University Tigers 83-59 in Sunday's final game of the tournament.

Emily Frankovic (Thornhill, ON) led the Marauders in scoring with 29 points, making 5 3-pointers and taking home player of the game for McMaster. Amy Stinson (Hamilton, ON) added 18 points, 8 rebounds and 4 steals in the victory.

The Tigers were led in scoring by Sarah Valley (Regina, SK) in scoring, making 4, 3-pointers. Kaitlyn Ferrier (Calgary, AB) received player of the game for the Tigers, scoring 11 points, grabbing 8 rebounds, and dishing 4 assists.

The Marauders gained a 46-29 lead at the half. However, the Tigers made it a close game, pulling within 10 points with 8 minutes left.

It wouldn't be enough for the Tigers as the Marauders held on and hit 12 3-pointers in the game.
