The Dalhousie Tigers split the series with the Memorial Sea-Hawks (9-11) after Saturday's loss, 66-64.
The Hawks had a positive first quarter. They had a quick score off the tip from Sydney Stewart, who put up the first four for Memorial. MUN kept up their fastbreak scoring, but Dalhousie was able to prevent the Hawks from creating a large lead early.
The Tigers were fighting for the loose balls and creating second chance opportunities. They shot the ball wonderfully from deep, making just as many as they missed, 6/12 in the first half. Despite their great shooting, Memorial was able to hold on to a small lead after two quarters, 33-28.
For Memorial, Sydney Ezekiel led the scoring with 11 in the first half. Dalhousie's Sophie Gaube led her team with 12, off 4/7 shooting from deep. Sydney Stewart of the Hawks struggled uncharacteristically in the first two frames, shooting just 2-11 from the field. Despite her woes, the scoring from Memorial was balanced across multiple players, taking the pressure of Stewart's scoring woes.
The third quarter was a massive momentum shift for the Tigers, they used their hustle and grit to earn them extra opportunities. Dalhousie was stroking it for the whole game, ending up with a fantastic percentage of 55%. Their efforts spurned them forward in to a competitive fourth quarter.
The Hawks were unable to seal the deal in the final frame. They maintained a lead for a majority of the game, but Dalhousie's shooting and hustle plays prevented Memorial from opening up a sustainable lead. The Hawks were shooting poorly from deep on top of their struggles to contain the Tigers, posting a poor percentage from three at 15%.
Dalhousie's Sophie Gaube had a game-high 22, earning herself player of the game commendations. Memorial had three seniors in double digits (Stewart, Wright, and Ezekiel), with Sydney Ezekiel leading the charge for MUN. She posted 19, 5 rebounds, and four steals.
