The Memorial Sea-Hawks (9-10) were able to defeat the Dalhousie Tigers in the first of two games this weekend, 87-76.

The game started in the Sea-Hawks favour, as they jumped out to a 6-0 run off the tip. Dalhousie was able to stop the momentum before Memorial blew open a lead early. They were supported by hometown-girl Claire Hickman's efforts off the bench. She led the Tigers at the half, with seven points.

The Hawks were able to maintain a lead after the first half, 37-31. Sydney Stewart had 12, on a tough 5-13 shooting from the field. Scoring was balanced decently across the team, with seven Hawks contributing on offense. There efforts were more effective than Dalhousie, as they struggled to convert from the field, shooting a poor 27%.

The third was a great frame of play. Dal made their best efforts at trimming the MUN lead, but Memorial was able to maintain their course and stretch the difference. They ended the frame on a great buzzer beater from Alana Short, following a solid and-one play from Hallie Nickerson. Hawks kept the lead after the quarter, 67-51.

In the final frame, Memorial was able to overcome the Tigers great effort. They were able to create their largest lead of the game in the final frame, really solidifying their victory. In the second last home game of the season, and one of the last games for the Memorial fifth-years, a solid victory was well deserved.

Robertha Charles led the scoring for the Tigers with 21 and added nine rebounds. Claire Hickman had a double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds.

Sydney Stewart, Brooklyn Wright, Sydney Ezekiel, and Rosie Stanoev were all honoured in the final home series of the year, marking the end of their tenure with the Hawks. They take on the Dalhousie again tomorrow to mark their final regular season game of their university careers.  Tip-off is schedule for 12:00pm and the game will also be available AUStv.ca.
