Dalhousie women’s basketball head coach Anna Stammberger is pleased to announce the addition of Chelsea Slawter-Wright to the 2017-18 lineup.

Chelsea Slawter-Wright joins the Tigers after two seasons in the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA).

A 5’5 guard, Slawter-Wright played two seasons with the Holland College Hurricanes, helping them to back-to-back Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Association (ACAA) championship titles and a silver medal at the 2015-16 CCAA championship. This past season, she averaged 7.8 points, 3.7 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game.

She earned the basketball team’s most improved player award and was the school’s female rookie of the year at the end of the 2015-16 season. She was named the women’s basketball most dedicated player honour at the end of this past season.

Before Holland College, the Halifax, N.S. native played three seasons at Citadel High School, leading them to three consecutive Nova Scotia School Athletic Federation (NSSAF) championship titles.

“I am excited to come to Dal and become a Tiger,” says Slawter-Wright. “Dal is an amazing school and has a great athletic program. I am grateful for the opportunity to begin my studies and play under Coach Stammberger. I am hoping to grow as a player and have a positive impact on the team’s success.”

Both a CCAA national scholar and Holland College Scholar-Athlete in 2015-16, Slawter-Wright recently graduated with a Diploma of Sport and Leisure Kinesiology. She will begin to pursue a Bachelor of Science, with a major in Kinesiology, this fall.

“We’re very happy Chelsea has returned to Halifax to suit up in the black and gold this September,” says Stammberger. “Chelsea was always known for her great defence in high school, but after two successful years in the CCAA she’s developed her offensive game as well and gained valuable competition experience. Her maturity, physicality and leadership at the point guard position will be a welcome addition to the Tigers.”
