Capers drop Tigers 84-52

Sydney, NS - The Cape Breton University Capers (11-2) started off hot and kept momentum all game long to defeat the Dalhousie Tigers (2-11) with a final score of 84-52 in Atlantic University Sport women's basketball action at the Sullivan's Field House. 

The Capers started the game with their usual high intensity and tough defense, which helped them jump to a 7-0 run to start the game. Hannah Brown (North Sydney, NS) laid in a layup right as the first quarter expired, giving the Capers a 26-9 lead after the first quarter. 

The Tigers cut CBU's lead with three consecutive baskets, including a nice jumper by Karina May (Moncton, NB) but Jalynn Skeir (Halifax, NS) gave the Capers a spark by scoring five of her 13 points in the quarter, giving her team a 43-25 lead at the half. 

In the second half, it was Alison Keough (Marion Bridge, NS) leading the way for the Capers. She provided 13 of her game high 23 points in the second half. Keough put an exclamation point on her big night with an and-one with 49 seconds left of the game. 

For the Tigers, Shalyn Field (Halifax, NS) had a team best 12 points, while adding eight rebounds and two assists. Robertha Charles (Montreal, QC) added nine points, seven rebounds, and two steals. 

Keough had a double-double with 23 points and 11 rebounds. Colleen Keane (Scarborough, ON) and Valentina Primossi (Trieste, ITA) each contributed 13 points for the Capers. 

Both teams will meet again Saturday evening at the Field House where the Capers will host the Dalhousie Tigers for the second game of their back-to-back.
