(Halifax, N.S.)—Shanieka Wood came down one rebound shy of a double-double in Saint Mary's 71-53 victory Sunday afternoon over the Dalhousie Tigers in AUS women's basketball action from the Homburg Centre.

The third-year Ajax, Ontario native finished with 13 points and nine rebounds for the U Sports No. 9 ranked Huskies, who improve to 9-2 (24 points) after a January 13th 86-61 Acadia win.

The Huskies left eight points in Newfoundland with two losses to Memorial University last weekend.

Saint Mary's wasted no time in jumping out to a fast 25-6 first quarter lead.

In the second quarter, Dalhousie outscored Saint Mary's 12-8 and at the half trailed the Huskies 33-18.

A 17-16 third quarter saw SMU hold a 50-34 lead after thirty minutes.

The final frame saw a 21-19 quarter score go Saint Mary's way and the Huskies won 71-53.

Dal drops to 2-8 with six points in AUS play.

The only Dal players scoring in double-digits came off the bench with Karina May's (Moncton, N.B.) 11 points and Halifax's Shalyn Field added 10.

Angelina Carvery (Halifax, N.S.) had 12 points, four assists and two steals for the Huskies while Fall River, Nova Scotia native Jenny Lewis has nine points and three rebounds in the win.

Up next for Dal is a road trip to Acadia University (4-6, 12 points) January 19th.

Saint Mary's hosts Cape Breton University (9-1, 30 points) January 20th and 21st.

Tip-off for all games is 6 p.m.
