Tigers go 1-2 at McGill Redbird Classic

(HALIFAX N.S.) - The Tigers women's basketball team participated in the McGill Redbird Classic this weekend where they received one win and two losses. This tournament was the first regular season action that the 2016-17 Tigers team have seen this season.  

On Friday October 21, the Tigers fell to the Waterloo Warriors in their first game of the tournament 67-53. Tigers guard Michele Tchiakoua was the top scorer, tallying a total of 15 points. Emily Wilk led the Warriors to a victory by scoring an impressive 27 total points.

Saturday October 22 recorded the second loss of the tournament for the Tigers. They played against the host McGill Redbirds and lost by a final score of 79-50 in front of just over 100 fans. Tigers guard Diedre Alexander was the top scorer for the squad as she tallied a total of 13 points. The McGill Redbirds had three players who had double digit total points at the end of the battle: Frederique Potvin (20 points), Jennifer Silver (10 points) and Alex Kiss-Rusk (10 points).

The tables turned for the Tigers in the final matchup of the tournament as they defeated the Laurentian Voyageurs 72-69. The game was a nail biter, but the Tigers came out on top thanks to three players recording double digit total points: Michele Tchiakoua (14 points), Robertha Charles (12 points) and Karina May (10 points).

The Tigers next game will be their home opener on Friday November 4 against the Cape Breton Capers. Game time is 6 pm at the Dalplex.
