(FREDERICTON, NB) The UNB Varsity Reds scored 20 third quarter points, on route to a 64-47 win over the visiting Dalhousie Tigers, in the final game for both teams at UNB's annual Helen Campbell Tournament.

Katelyn Mangold (Peterborough, ON) scored 14 to lead UNB, while Diedre Alexander (Woodstock, NB) dropped a game high 16 for Dal. Alexander also had six rebounds.

The Varsity Reds finish the weekend with a 2-1 record, while the Tigers go home winless in three tries.

"We did know they were young," said Varsity Reds guard Grace Wade (Moncton, NB), of Sunday's opponent. "But they're well coached and athletic and fast and strong."

Wade scored 12 against Dalhousie.

The Tigers turned the ball over 26 times, fewer than UNB, but didn't see as much production from their bench as the Varsity Reds.

"I definitely think our team did some good things this weekend, so we're going to use this as a learning experience and come away with some good," said Alexander.

"We need to do a better job of moving the ball," she said. "Our defence will improve with experience, and that will come with playing more games."

A number of Varsity Reds newcomers came into the game off the bench.

Notably, Mikaela Dodig (Bolton, ON) played 14 minutes, while Krystal Osburn (Collingwood, ON) put in 9 minutes, scoring her first basket.

"It was a great chance for our younger girls to get a sense of what the play is going to be like," said the veteran Wade. "Now they know what they need to improve on. The older girls know what they need to improve on too… and as a team, we know where our strengths and our weaknesses lie."

Dal's Alexander and UNB's Hannah Currie were both named Campbell Tournament All Stars.
