2016-17 Women's Basketball Season Preview

2016-17 Women's Basketball Season Preview

This year’s edition of the Tigers women’s basketball team will be a blend of fresh faces and experienced players. Leading the way is third-year player and AUS championship all-star Diedre Alexander (Woodstock, NB).

AUS all-rookie team members Sophie Gaube (Halifax, NS) and Megan Thompson (Brantford, ON) are back for their second seasons, while fourth-years Shalyn Field (Lower Sackville, NS), and Ashley Cain (Toronto, ON) will look to play even bigger roles on the court this season. Guard Sarah Preston-Thomas (Ottawa, ON) returns for her second season in the black and gold while Hannah Gonzales (Calgary, AB) re-joins the line-up after two seasons recovering from injury.

Charlotte Thompson (Summerside, PEI), Michelle Tchiakoua (Montreal, QC) and Robertha Charles (Montreal, QC) are entering their first seasons with the Tigers. Tchiakoua and Charles played together in the CEGEP for three seasons with Dawson College.

Rounding out the 2016-17 Tigers team are first year players Karina May (Moncton, NB), a long and fast guard who defends and rebounds with a lot of heart; post Claire Hickman (St. John’s, NL) who is finishing well around the hoop. First-year guards Ashley Jackson (Chatham, ON) and Shealyn Brown (Dartmouth, NS) are both making some great strides adjusting to CIS play.
