Dalhousie finishes strong at Laval Tournament

This weekend, the women's basketball team travelled to compete in the Université de Laval tournament on the 23rd, 24th, and 25th of October for their last pre-season games.

On Friday, October 23rd, Dalhousie played against Laval and finished with a final score of 61-32 for Laval Rouge et Or. The Tigers had a hard time getting the ball in the net, but fist year Sophie Gaube (Halifax, NS) was top scorer for the team with 13 points throughout the game. Laval's Genevieve Derome led with the most points of the game at 21 points in her 28 minutes of play.

Dalhousie played UPEI on Saturday and lost in the last seconds of the game for a final score of 66-65 for the Panthers. The Tigers were up by 2 points with five seconds left on the clock, but the Panthers' Katelynn Donahoe (Riverview, NB) hit a 3 pointer as the buzzer went which put them one point ahead of the Tigers, winning them the game. Dalhousie's Tessa Stammberger (Halifax, NS) was top scorer for the game and finished with 29 points in her 28 minutes of play. On the Panthers' side, Anne Kiberd (Halifax, NS) led the scoring for her team with 17points.

The Tigers' final game of the tournament was against University of Toronto's Varsity Blues on Sunday, October 25th and Dalhousie came out with a 46-44 win over Toronto. The Varsity Blues held a strong lead over the Tigers for the majority of the game. Toronto was 15 points ahead of Dalhousie at the start of the 4th quarter, but the Tigers came back to win it. Toronto's Alanna Garner (London, ON) had the most points between the two teams at 14. Dalhousie's Ainsley MacIntyre had 8 points in her 17 minutes of play and Stammberger headed the Tigers with 11 points and 6 rebounds for the game which led to her being selected for the all-star team for the tournament.

Dalhousie will have their first regular season game on Friday, November 6th against UNB at 6pm in the Dalplex. The men's basketball team will take the court against the Varsity Reds at 8 o'clock after the women's game.
